Frequently Asked Questions

Question:
I'm scared of needles - what are Acupuncture needles like?
Answer:
At Carre Street Clinic we only use single-use, disposable, sterile needles. They are made of stainless steel and are between 1/5 and 1/4 of a mm thick. They are nothing like the large, hollow hyperdermic needles that you might be familiar with from having injections. In the UK Acupuncturists are not permitted to hold the shaft of the needle and so it is common to use plastic guide tubes when inserting needles. This means that the part of the needle that is making contact with your body remains sterile at all times and an added bonus is that the needle insertion is generally painless.
